Elite Motorsport's Fred Green secured pole position for race one of the GB4 Championship race weekend at Oulton Park, with a last gasp lap of 1m34.350s.
That effort, set with just 10 seconds remaining, pipped KMR Sport's long-time session leader Alex O'Grady for pole, though the Irishman claimed pole for race two, based on each driver's second quickest laps.
O'Grady and Green were the drivers to beat throughout the session, with O'Grady's 1m34.393s putting him top for almost all of the second half of the elongated 20 minute session.
But Green chipped away, narrowing the gap at the top to 0.050s, then 0.022s before finally setting his best lap with just seconds remaining, putting him on pole for the third time already in 2026, with a margin of 0.043s.
With a couple of yellow flags interrupting the flow of the session, O'Grady wasn't able to better his time set in the middle of qualifying, but still has two front row starts to look forward to this weekend.
Hillspeed's Enzo Hallman moved up to third with his own final flier, just over a tenth of a second away from O'Grady and a similar distance clear of Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing's Luke Hilton, who was fourth quickest but will drop to ninth on the race one grid courtesy of a penalty carried over from Silverstone.
Fortec's Thomas Ingram Hill was fifth quickest, 0.029s clear of the second Elite car of Matan Achituv, who enjoyed a best qualifying result of the season, likewise for Pace Performance's Torrin Byrne, who was inside the qualifying top-10 for the first time.
Ingram Hill's teammate Franciszek Cegielski was 0.079s behind in eighth, 0.093s clear of Hillspeed's Connor Willis, with the third Elite Motorsport machine of Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso completing the top-10, which was covered by 0.925s.
For the race two grid, formed by each driver's second quickest times, O'Grady will line up on pole thanks to a 1m34.400s, with Greens's next best effort just 0.015s slower.
Hallman and Ingram Hill are next up ahead of Achituv and Hilton, with Cegielski, Willis, Byrne and Del Grosso inside the top-10 once more.
The first race of the weekend at Oulton Park is due to start at 3pm local time.
