Storm Stacey kicked off the ZYN British Superbike Championship weekend at Oulton Park fastest for the Bathams AJN Racing Ducati team, toppling Kyle Ryde from the top of the times by 0.019s in the final minutes of the opening Free Practice session.

Ryde had set the benchmark throughout the session, but in the final five minutes, Stacey closed in on his time, before moving ahead to set the pace from the reigning champion on the Nitrous Coin Nitrous Competitions Racing Ducati.

Max Cook surged into third place on his final lap of the session; the AJN Steelstock bimota rider leaping up the order to displace Rory Skinner on the Cheshire Mouldings Yamaha and Christian Iddon on the Sencat Racing Yamaha.

Ryan Vickers held on to sixth place for the Honda Racing UK team, moving ahead of Bradley Ray in the closing stages. The McAMS Yamaha rider had held a position in the top three until the closing stages when there was the final flurry of improvements, likewise for Leon Haslam and the Moto Rapido Racing team who dropped to eighth in the final moments.

Jason O'Halloran was ninth fastest for Honda Racing UK with Lee Jackson completing the top ten on the leading DAO Racing Honda. It was a challenging opening session for Scott Redding in 14th and Glenn Irwin in 17th positions respectively.
