Max Cook delivered the new fastest ever BSB lap of Oulton Park in the ROKiT Oxygen Performance Qualifying session ahead of the opening ZYN British Superbike Championship race this afternoon, carving 0.070s off the time set by Kyle Ryde yesterday.
Cook had set an initial benchmark lap early in the session, but as the times continued to tumble rapidly, Bradley Ray then moved up the order for McAMS Yamaha.
Storm Stacey then set the fastest lap of the weekend on the Bathams AJN Racing Ducati to put him ahead of the pack, but on Cook’s final attack he had the edge by 0.082s to give the AJN Steelstock bimota it’s first Omologato Pole Position in a session where the top 11 riders were covered by just 0.765s.
Leon Haslam looked set to claim a front row start, but the Moto Rapido Racing rider was eased back onto the second row with Cook’s final lap improvement.
Joe Talbot celebrated his best qualifying result of the season in fifth place on the second of the AJN Steelstock bimotas, just ahead of Scott Redding who grabbed a second row start on his final run to forced Ryan Vickers back onto the third row.
Rory Skinner had been holding third earlier in the session for the Cheshire Mouldings Yamaha team, but he dropped down to eighth just ahead of Ilya Mikhalchik and Kyle Ryde, who had his worst qualifying performance of the season so far in tenth place.
