BTCC Race 2: Sutton claims fourth win of 2025 at Oulton Park

22 June 2025

Ash Sutton won the second Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Oulton Park to increase his 2025 victory to four this afternoon (Sunday).

Race one victor Tom Ingram initially held the lead, but the fast starting Sutton rose immediately from fourth to second in his NAPA Racing UK Ford. Sutton’s Focus ST immediately applied pressure to Ingram’s Team VERTU Hyundai ahead, and he was past with a decisive move at Island on lap two.

Having started the race on the slower hard tyres, Ingram was vulnerable straight away to Adam Morgan in another of the VERTU branded Hyundais, ceding second on the run down towards Hislops. Another of the team’s entries, Tom Chilton’s, was past shortly thereafter, just before the race was paused following a safety car intervention following an impact with the barrier for Dan Lloyd at Clay Hill.

Dan Cammish, who started alongside Ingram on the front row was down to fifth by the time the race went under caution, whilst reigning champion Jake Hill was sixth at this stage in his Laser Tools liveried BMW. He was followed ta this point by Senna Proctor, Josh Cook, Aron Taylor-Smith and Charles Rainford whilst third place starter Chris Smiley slipped out of the top-10.

Racing conditions resumed on lap 10 with Sutton immediately driving off into the lead again, with Morgan and Chilton’s Hyundais tucked in behind. Ingram managed to hold onto fourth on the slower tyre, but Cammish wasn’t so fortunate losing ground to Hill, Proctor and Cook.

Rainford’s hopes of a top-10 result came to a crashing end at Old Hall when he ran off the track in his LKQ branded BMW, but he was able to keep going, so the race didn’t face another safety car period.

With Sutton circulating at the front ahead of Morgan and Chilton, the main fight emerging on the circuit was between Ingram and Hill for fourth place. Hill appeared to have the pace to trouble the 2022 champion but obvious opportunities to overtake failed to arise. He also faced pressure from Proctor before the latter slowed in the later laps.

Sutton crossed the line just 1.715s ahead of Morgan after a controlled run in towards the chequered flag with Morgan and Chilton completing the podium. Ingram then resisted Hill to secure second, third and fourth for the Team VERTU Hyundais.

Proctor’s late race loss of ground meant he was forced to settle for eighth after being passed by both a charging Daniel Rowbottom and Josh Cook, just ahead of Gordon Shedden who claimed ninth in his Toyota Corolla GR Sport. Shedden will now start the third and final race of the day from pole position after the reverse grid draw. Cammish crossed the line in 10th position.
