The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship makes its annual visit to Cheshire three races at picturesque Oulton Park next weekend (21/22 June). The popular circuit near Tarporley always attracts a big crowd and there is still time to join the spectators on the banks with discounted advance tickets available until 4pm next Thursday (19 June).
Four-time title winner Sutton leads the standings following an impressive start to the campaign with NAPA Racing UK. Sutton has made a near-perfect start in his quest for what would be an unprecedented fifth crown, claiming three wins in a season where repeat successes have been hard to come by.
His nearest rival ahead of a trio of races on the Island circuit is Team VERTU’s Tom Ingram at the wheel of his trusty Hyundai i30N of Tom Ingram. The 2022 champion is just nine points behind his rival with 67 available per weekend in theory. Ingram’s point-scoring consistency has kept him in the frame and he recently opened his victory account for the year.
NAPA branded Ford Focus STs have been quick this year, not only in Sutton’s hands, but also in those of his teammates. Daniel Rowbottom is the only other driver to have won more than once, claiming a win at each of the previous two events, whilst Dan Cammish has scored well and bagged a single victory to place himself in the picture.
Reigning champion Jake Hill is a little further back in his Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW. Despite not matching last seasons heights just yet, the impressive campaigner did claim a home win at Brands Hatch and he now heads to a venue at which he’s enjoyed prior success.
Tom Chilton is another of the series better established names to have enjoyed a victory this year, whilst Charles Rainford, Daryl DeLeon and Mikey Doble have all joined the ranks of BTCC winners in recent weeks. Other drivers with previous successes on the grid include Adam Morgan, Josh Cook, Chris Smiley, Aiden Moffat, Daniel Lloyd, Stephen Jelley, Ronan Pearson, Aron Taylor-Smith, Senna Proctor and three-time champion Gordon Shedden.
Three BTCC races will headline the weekend’s circuit action on the Sunday with qualifying and free practice sessions a day prior. There is a busy support race programme to look forward to as well, with the VERTU MINI CHALLENGE, Porsche Sprint Challenge GB and the Wera Tools F4 British Championship.
